American Poems: Longfellow; Whittier; Bryant; Holmes; Lowell; Emerson
1892
Cambridge, Mass.; Houghton Miffin Company
Hardcover. Red with gilt stamped lettering; light rubbing to all edges, corners bumped. Cover shows expected wear due to age and spine has rounded. Previous owner notation inside front cover, as well as class notation inside back cover. Text is overall clean and bright; pages show staining and age. A wonderful book containing a multitude of poems. Four leaf clover stains inside on page 196 and 197.

A beautifully aged 1892 anthology American Poems, featuring works from some of the most influential voices in early American literature: Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, John Greenleaf Whittier, William Cullen Bryant, Oliver Wendell Holmes, James Russell Lowell, and Ralph Waldo Emerson. This collection offers a thoughtful glimpse into the poetic landscape of the late 19th century — rich with nature imagery, philosophical reflection, and the evolving identity of American literary expression.

The volume carries the quiet elegance of its era, with period typography, gently toned pages, and the soft patina that accompanies a well-loved antique book. Expected signs of age — including minor cover wear, page toning, and structural delicacy — are consistent with its history and contribute to its authentic character.

A wonderful addition to curiosity libraries, vintage book collections, studio styling, or anyone drawn to historic literature, natural imagery in poetry, and the tactile romance of antique print.
