Each Naturalist's Surprise Mystery Frame is a one-of-a-kind, completed composition assembled from a curious assortment of natural history and antique-inspired treasures. Every piece measures approximately 4 × 4" to 4 × 6" and is presented beneath glass, ready to hang or display.
While no two frames are alike, every Naturalist’s Surprise Mystery Frame is guaranteed to contain at least one real insect and real dried botanicals. These mystery pieces are often intentionally simpler in composition than our individually listed works, allowing the natural beauty and peculiarities of the specimens themselves to take center stage.
Depending on the piece, you may also discover antique tintypes, Victorian-inspired hair work, additional insects, preserved botanical specimens, and other curious details. Some frames may be more minimal and specimen-focused, while others may contain a few unexpected embellishments.
Naturalist’s Surprise Mystery Frames may be pieces previously showcased as part of past Peculiar Botany collections, or they may be works that have never before been seen by anyone other than their creator; quiet curiosities that have simply been waiting for their moment to be discovered.
Your frame will be selected at random by us. Specific insects, botanicals, photographs, colors, or other elements cannot be requested at checkout, though we’re always delighted to hear what catches your curiosity and will certainly keep your wishes in mind when possible.
Think of it as a small cabinet of curiosities chosen for you: you won’t know exactly what you’ve received until it arrives.
Each composition is handmade and inherently unique. Natural specimens may vary in color, texture, size, and condition, and small signs of age or imperfection are part of their character.

This item may be a genuine vintage or antique collectible, a handmade creation, or a one-of-a-kind piece. As such, it may exhibit natural signs of age, patina, wear, or structural delicacy consistent with its history. Such characteristics are considered part of the object's authenticity and are not defects. Please review all photographs and descriptions carefully, as the item shown is the exact piece you will receive.
All items are professionally packed with collector-grade care using protective materials appropriate for fragile and irreplaceable objects. Once an item has been transferred to the shipping carrier and tracking information has been issued, transit responsibility rests with the carrier. While we will reasonably assist by providing documentation for claims when appropriate, we cannot guarantee carrier handling, transit time, environmental exposure, delays, loss, or damage occurring during shipment.
Tracking information is always provided. The purchaser assumes responsibility for monitoring delivery status and initiating any necessary carrier inquiries or claims once shipment is in transit.
If an item arrives visibly damaged, notification must be made in writing within 48 hours of confirmed delivery, accompanied by clear photographs of:
• The item
• Interior packaging
• Exterior packaging
• Shipping label
• Unboxing documentation when available
Failure to provide timely documentation may void eligibility for claim assistance.
Optional shipping insurance is available upon request prior to purchase and is strongly recommended for higher-value items.
All items are sold strictly as-is, final sale. Due to the rarity, age, and collectible nature of our inventory:
• Returns, exchanges, and refunds are not accepted.
• Condition variations consistent with age are not grounds for return.
• Environmental damage occurring after delivery is the buyer's responsibility.

• You accept responsibility for proper care, storage, and preservation after delivery.
